With the help of our community we made a difference
with our large Toys for Tots Book Donation!
Launched in March 2008, the Toys for Tots Literacy Program offers the nation's most economically disadvantage children the ability to compete academically and to succeed in life by providing them direct access to books and educational resources that enhance their ability to read and to communicate effectively. With the help of our community we were able to raise enough money to be able to donate over 1000 books to a community organization within the Greenbush Neighborhood where our store is located.
Our donation was presented to the Neighborhood House. In 1916, an undergraduate thesis by a University of Wisconsin student proposed the creation of an organization to meet the needs of a growing number of immigrant families in the Greenbush area. That organization became the first, and remains the oldest, community center in Madison: Neighborhood House. Henry Barnbrock Jr. probably never imagined where his proposal would lead, but we’re hoping he at least received a good grade.
The Neighborhood House mission is to provide high quality programming and social services that facilitate the growth of a diverse, responsible, and welcoming community.
